Elia Alba was born in New York City of Dominican parents in 1962. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in 1994 where she graduated magna cum laude in Philosophy and Literature and completed the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in 2001. Ms. Alba is a multi-media artist whose work has been exhibited and screened at various national and international institutions, fairs and film festivals, for example, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts; El Museo del Barrio, PHotoEspana 2006, Madrid; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; ARCO, Madrid; ArtBasel Miami; Jersey City Museum; Science Museum, London and the RISD Museum to name a few. Her awards have included, the Artists-in-Residence Fellowship from the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Whitney Museum Van Lier Foundation Fellowship; New York Foundation for the Arts Grant; Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. Her work has been reviewed in the Art Nexus, The Guardian, Time Out, FlashArt, Tema Celeste and The New York Times. She lives in Queens and works in Brooklyn, New York.
